Went to a talk yesterday by a guy called Dr. Peter Hill who is an artist and writer and creates SuperFictions. These include fictitous museums, press releases, art works and artists. He mentioned a few interesting points about how he does not intend his fiction to be a hoax but to highlight different issues that occur in art with the hope that it may influence other organizations, companies etc to change the way they do things. He said he was very much into the theoretical side to what he does in particular Relational Aesthetics.
What was super interesting were the few artists he mentioned that have used fiction to create different manifestation for example Rez Ingold’s Airline back in the 80’s, SeymourLikely’s art gallery/lounge bar, the Fictitious art hotel in Amsterdam called the Winston hotel, Vanessa Beecroft’s fictitious marketing company, Rodney Glick‘s fictitious institutions company. These were all influenced by other fictitious company founders like Ralph Rumney, who founded the London Psychogeographical Association as part of the Situationist movement.
